PRODUCT AND TECHNOLOGY NEWS
QuickTime 3.0, the upcoming release of Apple's digital media system
software for Windows and Mac OS, was just awarded two top honors
by Videography magazine: the first annual Open Studio Interoperability
Award, presented at the SIGGRAPH trade show in August, and the
National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) '97 Editors' Choice
Award.

NEW RELEASES
This seed release fixes a date problem with volumes mounted via
aliases, and it includes fully localized clients. It also handles
volumes greater than 4 GB on System 7.6 and later.

This prerelease version of the AppleShare IP Mail Tool allows
administrators to manage the AppleShare IP Mail Server database.
It also allows reassignment of mail messages for disabled mail
boxes. This seed requires AppleShare IP 5.0.1 or later.

This new release of Apple's OpenDoc component software architecture
includes support for Mac OS 8.

MARKETING OPPORTUNITIES
Macworld Magazine and MacTech Magazine have agreed to jointly
present a new set of awards for Macintosh developer tools. Macworld
Magazine, which now incorporates MacUser Magazine, will also give
out about 30 awards for best products in a variety of Mac OS product
and technology categories. The event will take place at the annual
Editors Choice Awards ("Eddies") ceremony in January at MACWORLD
Expo. Submissions for these awards should be sent by e-mail with
product name and description, contact information, and company
web site address (URL) to awards@mactech.com by November 1, 1997.

Pantone is sponsoring a comarketing opportunity for all Hexachrome
product developers who plan to have Hexachrome products in 1998,
or who have supporting products. (Hexachrome is Pantone's new
high-fidelity color reproduction system.) Pantone plans to distribute
more than 100,000 Hexachrome Solutions Guides at major industry
trade shows, in "How to Design with Hexachrome" training seminars
worldwide, and through key software distribution channels. This
guide provides an affordable way for developers to market their
products to thousands of designers, prepress, and printing professionals.

Through the Mac OS Up-To-Date program, Apple, Power Computing,
and UMAX customers who buy qualifying Mac OS-based computers on
or after June 22, 1997, may upgrade to Mac OS 8 for U.S. $9.95,
plus applicable sales tax.
